Thank you for writing this. I’m sorry it’s so hard for us to admit that racism is real. It’s real on both on the individual level (even if it’s unconscious bias, not explicit hatefulness) and on the institutional/systemic level. As a filmmaker and educator I have witnessed and also sometimes been an unintentional party to it. There are so many layers. My promise to myself now is not that I will be perfect, because that is impossible, but that I will listen, respect and respond.
